Adobe Photoshop Express for iOS now supports Retina Display, multitasking, better workflow

With an update to version 1.5, Photoshop Express for iOS now supports the iPhone and iPod touch's Retina Display, and iOS 4.2's multitasking. The app is free to download, as always.

The app received a few other neat updates, too. You can now shoot continuously from inside the app, making action photography a whole lot easier. Uploading to Photoshop.com and Facebook is also much improved: with multitasking now enabled, you can queue some uploads, and then get straight back to taking photos.

The press release that we received, incidentally, cites "millions of iOS-based users" -- so this should be a very well-received update indeed!

Google 'not happy' with Android Market purchase rates, many changes coming

Google 'not happy' with Android Market purchase rates, many changes coming
Having a Market full of apps is a very good thing for owners of Android handsets, but those owners buying few premium apps is a bad thing for developers who keep that Market full. That, of course, is also bad news for Google, which is making a variety of changes to appease devs, some of which Android Platform Manager Eric Chu outlined at the Inside Social Apps conference yesterday. After already nuking the 24 hour trial period Google is now working on an in-app payment system, which would enable the direct-selling of add-ons, costumes, and enough other bits and bobs to ensure you'll never buy a fully-featured app again.

Google is also negotiating with more carriers to allow users to have app purchases appear on their bill, rather than using a separate payment system, as is already possible on AT&T. Finally, a team of honest to gosh humans is working on helping to weed out apps that violate the company's terms of service, sifting through the Market to find bogus downloads, perhaps an admission that the "open and unobstructed environment" ideal isn't working out. We wonder if they'll also be looking for free apps that quite capably provide the functionality of premium ones. Those, it seems, are the greatest threat to the paid apps -- and perhaps the greatest asset of the Market itself.

Pandora for Mini Connected and SYNC AppLink now available for iPhone

Pandora for Mini Connected now available for streaming to your ride
The Mini Connected app finally hit the App Store back in December, enabling those with suitably equipped little German/British autos to connect their iPhones and iPods and do what nature intended. Well, everything nature intended except for streaming Pandora. Now that solemn right is a possibility too, with the latest version of Pandora available in iTunes. Update that, plug your iPhone into your Mini, and you can get your stream on, just like we did at CES. However, if you're more of a domestics guy or gal you don't have to feel left out, because this new version supports Ford's SYNC AppLink as well. And, yes, we had some quality hands-on time with that, too.

2011: Second Wave of Children?s Mobile Apps Is Coming

I spent a lot of 2010 playing with mobile apps, mostly on iDevices.
It is clear that over that time, applications have grown up and older in a very short time. As with all technology, mobile apps follow a general “Moore’s law trajectory” and quality (along with speed) is improving at an exponential rate. We have [...]

Ontario Provincial Parks Prep For Family Day

For residents of the province of Ontario (Canada), February doesn’t just mean brutal cold and snow. Statistically speaking, yes those two factors will likely be in play, but February also means Family Day, the holiday created by the provincial government in 2007. While staying indoors with the kids and playing board games around a roaring [...]
