According to Microsoft's Partner Website, Windows 7 Release Candidate is coming on May 5, but is available now for MSDN and TechNet subscribers. One tiny problem: The release candidate isn't available from either Website. Not yet....

The Kids Are All Right. Formspring Pageviews Are Up 65 Percent Since September

Over the past couple of years, we've seen a blooming of new Q&A sites which are both social and informative. While Quora gets a lot of our attention here at TechCrunch because of the quality of the answers it generates, it is still tiny compared Formspring, Stack Overflow, and most of its other competitors. Formspring, in particular, is killing it once again after a drop-off in activity in the middle of last year. According to comScore, Formspring had an estimated 1.1 billion pageviews in January, up 65 percent from September, and almost back up to its peak of 1.3 billion last May. Formspring also attracted an estimated 19 million unique visitors worldwide in January, compared to 3.1 million for Stack Overflow and only 496,000 for Quora. (Albeit, Quora's visitors grew nearly 90 percent from December to January alone, compared to 5 percent monthly growth for Formspring. However, Formspring is adding about one million new members a month).

Ask a VC: ?Investing in Music Is a Little Like Vietnam? (TCTV)

Ask a VC was on hiatus for a few weeks, but your Friday investor-talk fix is back. Our guest this week is Tony Conrad, partner at True Ventures and founder of About.Me, which recently sold to AOL along with TechCrunch. There was a pent-up flood of questions this week, and Conrad addressed many of them. In case you want to skip around here they are in order: -Why does True Ventures invest in more product and gadget companies than most VCs? What do they look for? -True's views on International investing. -Conrad's advice on getting into business in Southeast Asia and the moment he knew he'd "gone native." -Does Conrad have a secret "formula" for building companies to flip? And did he sell About.Me so early, because he didn't believe in the business? -Why True isn't betting big in the current game frenzy. -Why True doesn't bet on education or music companies. -And a general roundup of questions about how to pitch True.

Element Case gets all stealthy with the Vapor Pro case for iPhone 4

You may recall that my review of the Element Case Vapor case for the iPhone 4 was not all good, citing problems with comfort, reception, and clearance in the cutouts for the headphone and dock connector. Well, few things please me more than a company that can learn from its mistakes, and Element Case is [...]

Samsung Video Editor now available for some Android 2.2 phones

Samsung, rather stealthily, has released a Video Editor for its Galaxy S and Vibrant Android 2.2 phones. The APK is available for those of us with different phones, but early reports suggest that it only works on Samsung's flagship phones for now. Keep an eye on the xda-developers thread, though: they will probably work out how to get it running on other phones soon.

Functionality-wise, Samsung Video Editor looks fantastic. You can trim video clips and join them together. There are various special effects that can be applied, and you can change sound tracks. There's even a variety of export options!

And yes, in case you're wondering, editing video on your phone will suck your battery dry.

Faster Forward: Reviewing The Post's iPad app

The Washington Post has an iPad app, and it's much better than the iPhone program I panned in March.

Nokia will be allowed to customize every part of Windows Phone 7

In a bit of an about-turn, Microsoft will allow Nokia to "customize everything" in Windows Phone 7 in order to both differentiate it from handsets made by current WP7 OEMs, such as HTC and Samsung, and presumably to ensure smooth integration with Nokia's existing services.

Microsoft had, until now, kept a draconian grip on the look and feel of Windows Phone 7. In fact, other than being allowed to customize a couple of tiles on the home screen, OEMs aren't allowed to change anything on WP7! This change not only means that we'll see distinctively unique Nokia-Microsoft phones, but also that Nokia will retain more of its identity than just an embossed logo on its handsets.

The big question, though, is whether this represents an exclusive deal for Nokia, or a complete shift in Microsoft's WP7 strategy. You can be sure, however, that HTC, who was forbidden from installing its Sense UI on its WP7 phones, will be quick to question Microsoft's new stance.
